Bio & background

Alex Feil is a German-born commercial director based in Los Angeles. Born in 1977 and raised by theatre makeup artists, he began as an assistant editor at a German TV station, then freelanced roughly five years as an editor and post-production supervisor on documentaries and commercials. His 2006 breakthrough “a.r.t. – jump” launched a career with more than 30 awards, including a Cannes Grand Prix and golds, silvers and bronzes at Cannes, Clio, One Show, LIA, D&AD and ADC. Mercedes-Benz E-Class “Sorry” entered the Gunn Report hall of fame among the best car commercials of all time and took Clio and New York Festival honors. Luerzer’s Archive ranked him the #1 German director over a ten-year span; he is an ADC member, Clio 2017 juror (Film Technique: Direction & Cinematography) and German Film Academy guest lecturer. His automotive body of work includes Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz (“Sorry,” “The Diner”), BMW (true-story thriller “The Small Escape,” i7 Protection), Audi, Jaguar (“Biggest Want”) and Kia (“Downpour,” “Writer”). Parallel credits include Edeka’s #heimkommen / “Coming Home” (most-viewed commercial of 2015, 64M-plus YouTube views) and satirical “Eatkarus,” plus Deutsche Telekom “Bubbles,” Heineken, Netflix, Vodafone, Huawei, IKEA, Saturn, McDonald’s, Douglas, NIVEA and Mystocks. He signed to Believe Media in the US in 2014 and is working with Tempomedia (Germany) and Quad (France).
