Bio & background

Ashley Francis-Roy is a London-based documentary filmmaker and commercials director, originally from Leeds, represented for commercials by The Corner Shop in the US and UK, with Missing Link Films as a key branded-content production home. He won the Edinburgh TV Festival New Voice Awards Debut Director prize for Channel 4’s The Real Eastenders and RTS Best History Documentary for Damilola: The Boy Next Door. He produced the RTS- and Grierson-winning BBC Three series Hometown: A Killing, took the Channel 4 First Cut Pitch at Sheffield DocFest 2019, and was selected for BAFTA Breakthrough (Class of 2021) with a BAFTA Emerging Talent nomination that year. He directed Missing Link’s BAFTA-recognized To Catch A Copper and the documentary Striking with Pride. Branded credits include We Rise’s 60-second Leo Burnett/Publicis diversity-in-advertising film (2023), built from authentic Lambeth student voices, and Nike’s Grenfell Athletic Football Club piece Fabric of the Community (2024), linked to the Brothers & Sisters Nike shirt launch from Grenfell-surviving fabric. Bios also cite a first commercial for the Ministry of Housing. Commercial work extends his observational, trust-based documentary craft into community and underrepresented-voice storytelling.
