Bio & background

Baker Smith is a Los Angeles-based commercial director and co-founder of Harvest Films, the Santa Monica production company he launched in spring 2001 with executive producer Bonnie Goldfarb. He began directing commercials in 1989 at Harmony Pictures as part of the trio Bliss, went solo in 1991, and signed with Tate & Partners before founding Harvest. A comedy specialist known for reality-based humor and an eye for the absurd, he won the 2002 DGA Award for Best Commercial Director after a 2001 DGA nomination on Fox Sports’ “Nail Gun,” Toshiba’s “Asylum,” Heineken’s “Birth of Scratching,” and Lucky Magazine’s “Cheryl ‘n Me.” His Harvest bio and trade coverage also credit a Cannes Grand Prix, D&AD gold pencils, and repeated MoMA/AICP Show inductions. Signature spots include Pepsi’s 2012 “Showdown,” a dialogue-driven green-room standoff with Drew Brees and One Direction for TBWA\Chiat\Day; Bud Light Super Bowl XLV “Product Placement” (2011); and FirstBank’s Super Bowl “Lifeguard” (2022), shot on ARRI Alexa Mini with Cooke S4s. Roster work spans Nike, Mini Cooper, Toyota, Canal+, AT&T, T-Mobile, Booking.com, Aflac, Sparkling Ice, Hidden Valley Ranch, and Jack in the Box, built on grounded casting, location improv, and making outlandish premises credible in short form.
