Bio & background

Charles Burroughs is a Montreal-based commercial director specializing in humour-led, quirky and absurd comedy. He started on freestyle ski movies in Quebec before moving into advertising for agencies and brands from Canada to London and Sydney. His Farnham Ale & Lager “A Bit Bitter” campaign earned a Cannes Lions Bronze, Gold at the Advertising & Design Club of Canada, and Gold including Best TV Campaign at the Toronto Marketing Awards. Evidenced comedy spots include Canada Dry’s “Canadian Standoff,” Motomaster (“Moving Day,” “Go Ears”), Ebox (“Rage Quit,” “Leopards,” “Karaoke”), Dettol Australia (2019), Patience organic snacks, Flaregames’ Non-Stop Chuck Norris “Ask Nicely,” Chevrolet Dealerships Service Certifié, duBreton, Loto Quebec, ChirurgiVision, Pauwels and Fruit’Dor. In February 2023 he directed the Toronto Marketing Awards film “Awards Etiquette 101” / Brag Responsibly for lg2, casting retired Canadian creative directors in a Montreal diner piece. Fashion films such as Missoni X Larose Paris “300” and “The Cut” carried Vogue credits and played 20–25+ festivals. Named to Infopresse’s 30 under 30 and recognized by Arts Council England as an Exceptional Talent Migrant, he is rostered with Sparks Productions (Canada), Mad Cow Films (UK) and JS Pary. Craft notes emphasize deadpan timing, snappy dialogue, minimalistic staging and meticulously framed wide-lens coverage.
