Chris Hopewell is an English director and animator based in Bristol, specializing in traditional stop-motion and fairytale-inflected art direction. Landmark music films include Radiohead’s “There There” (2003) and “Burn the Witch” (2016), The Killers’ “Smile Like You Mean It,” Run the Jewels’ “Don’t Get Captured” and “Walking in the Snow,” Father John Misty’s “Please Don’t Die,” Avenged Sevenfold’s “The Stage” and “Nobody” (2023), and Yusuf/Cat Stevens’ zero-carbon “Where Do The Children Play?” and “Father & Son” (2020). In 2025 he directed and designed Goose’s “Everything Must Go” for Black Dog Films—stop-motion shot over three weeks in Bristol with roughly 90% of sets fashioned from beach-cleaned recycled materials—plus holiday stop-motion for Leon Bridges and a Wet Leg video. He co-directed the 2012 feature A Fantastic Fear of Everything with Crispian Mills, starring Simon Pegg. Advertising credits include Acura “Wall art” (co-directed with Ben Foley at Collision Films) and stop-motion segments for Discord’s branded “Discord: The Movie.” working with Black Dog Films for music videos and commercials; craft centers on hand-built puppets, sets, and designer-director control.
