Crystal Moselle is a New York–based filmmaker and commercial director whose work bridges documentary realism, youth subculture, and fashion-lifestyle storytelling. Her debut feature The Wolfpack (2015) won the Sundance Documentary Grand Jury Prize. She carried that method of filming real communities into the Miu Miu Women’s Tales short That One Day (Venice Film Festival), then into the Sundance 2018 narrative feature Skate Kitchen—Gotham Award–recognized—and the HBO series Betty (2020–2021). Commercially she has directed H&M’s “Bring It On” recycling campaign, Miu Miu branded short-form, Stella Artois’s 2017 “Our Dream of Water” film with National Geographic and Water.org, plus work for eBay, WhatsApp, Samsung, Kate Spade, VRBO, Color War, Chime, and New York Times Magazine. Trade coverage cites a storytelling approach that “stylishly melds realism and lifestyle,” with “street-chic style and lush look and feel” and grounded performance via “giving talent room to go off page.” In May 2024 The Directors Bureau signed her for US commercials and music videos; Somesuch represents her in the UK, and she remains listed with Anorak Film. Her 2024 SXSW feature The Black Sea continues improvisation drawn from real-life source material.
