Damien Shatford is a New Zealand commercial director known for sharp comedic timing, deadpan Kiwi delivery, and casting-led character work. Raised in Christchurch, he left school early, worked from kitchen dishboy to sous-chef while making music videos, then studied at the New Zealand Broadcasting School by age 20. His advertising work finds simplicity in high-concept comedy: DB Export’s R&B love-ballad “I’m Drinking It for You,” L&P’s Sheryl Crow–scored zombie romp “Best Day Ever,” and SBS’s clothes-shy streaker film “We Go There,” which won Best Comedic Campaign at the Ad Age A-List & Creativity Awards. Macpac’s “Weather Anything” put performers on a real mountainside to subvert the cinematic cliffhanger. Client work includes Uber Eats, Toyota’s “Unbreakable Bond,” Meat & Livestock Australia, Spark, Chorus, TVNZ+, Škoda UK’s EV campaign, Quest Nutrition, Batchelors Super Noodles, and Bud Light’s Super Bowl “Keg” for Anomaly featuring Peyton Manning, Shane Gillis, and Post Malone. Bios credit Cannes Lions, D&AD Pencils, Clios, Webbys, and shots Awards. In October 2023 he joined Biscuit Filmworks for U.S. and U.K. representation while continuing ANZ projects through The Sweetshop.
