David Shafei is a Los Angeles-based commercial director and co-founder of World War Seven (WW7), launched in 2009 with Josh Ferrazzano. His commercial practice centers on human-first comedy: casting and performance lead, with actors encouraged to play straight, improvise, and deepen material. For Super Bowl LVIII he directed GEICO’s “Legend of the Lizard” for The Martin Agency—a package of teasers, pregame spots, and a roughly 15-minute mockumentary on the GEICO Gecko, shot method-style with DP Polly Morgan and Framestore VFX, referencing Christopher Guest and Netflix’s Arnold. Other evidenced work includes AT&T’s “Easy Baby,” Oreo’s Separator Project and Arctic Circle “Vault,” KIND for Energy BBDO, Sierra with David Spade (Adam&Eve DDB), and Bounty with Drew Brees, Rob Gronkowski, and Reggie Bush (Saatchi & Saatchi). Clients also span Bud Light, Google, Petco, Dunkin’, Mountain Dew, iHOP, Native, Coinbase, jetBlue, Dave & Buster’s, Jack in the Box, Paze, and Cape Cod Chips. Roster materials credit multiple Cannes Lions, One Show, Clio, and Webby awards, plus collaborations with Megan Rapinoe, Marshawn Lynch, J.K. Simmons, Oscar Nunez, and Brad Garrett.
