Jason and Matt Docter are identical twin writer-directors based in Los Angeles who work as the Docter Twins and founded comedy-centric production company Thinking Machine. Alumni of SHOOT’s 2008 New Directors Showcase, they specialize in witty, performance-led comedy that pairs smart character work with cinematic style and a blend of humor and heart, drawing on Midwest roots and influences from the Coen brothers and John Hughes. Their Xfinity Mobile “Data in Dollars” campaign for Goodby Silverstein & Partners collected awards at Cannes Lions, the Clios, the Addys, AICP’s Next Awards, and the Webbys. In June 2025 they wrote an Ad Age opinion piece on the anatomy of a successful comedy commercial. Recent credits include FactSet’s ongoing comedy platforms with VSA Partners—“Not Just the Facts” Part 2 (November 2024, 16 spots built around character actor Wyndham Maxwell) and “Fluent in Finance”—plus Cold-EEZE and Defend-EEZE for Vespyr Brands, a Farm Bureau Insurance campaign that aired during the Super Bowl window (with a small cameo by the twins), Senokot Max for Havas London, back-to-back Hackensack Meridian Health lifestyle campaigns, and eBay. Additional reel work covers Therabody, CareCredit, McRib, Zovirax, Dashlane, Hefty, Samsung, Minnesota Lottery, Canon, and Delta Dental. They compose music for much of their directing work. Representation sits at Thinking Machine with U.S. coverage via Katie + Co (West) and AG Reps (Texas) expanded in September 2025.
