Francesca Canepa is a Peruvian writer-director working across socially conscious narrative film and advertising. Her short El Silencio del Río, shot on the Peruvian Amazon, premiered at Berlinale 2020, took the Grand Jury Award at the Oscar-qualifying Calgary International Film Festival, and became the first Peruvian live-action short positioned as an Academy Awards contender for 2021. Earlier short AYA, filmed in the Peruvian Andes, won Best Ibero-American Short at the Guadalajara International Film Festival in 2017. With Primo Content she directed Corona’s Plastic Fishing campaign, which earned five Golden Lions at Cannes Lions 2022 and placed her among that year’s Top 10 directors at the festival. Brand credits also include Corona Sunset X 100 Años, Club Colombia, Postobón, and Marias Gamesa’s Mother’s Day film for agency Isla. Debut feature La Otra Orilla, about a young mother in a floating Amazon community, was selected for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab 2024 and Sundance Women to Watch x Adobe Fellowship 2024, with CNC Cinéma du Monde production support (France, 2023). She is working with Primo Content across Latin America, with bios also citing Europe and the US. Training includes a Master’s in directing from ESCAC and screenwriting at EICTV.
