A USC School of Cinematic Arts graduate, Murai began his career as a freelance director of photography before transitioning to directing. His breakthrough came through collaboration with Donald Glover, directing 26 episodes of FX's Atlanta (2016-2022)—including the widely celebrated "Teddy Perkins"—earning him a PGA Award and four Emmy nominations. He won a Primetime Emmy as executive producer of The Bear and a Grammy for Best Music Video for "This Is America" (2018), which Billboard ranked 10th among the greatest music videos of the 21st century. His television work extends to HBO's Barry, Station Eleven, and Prime Video's Mr. & Mrs. Smith, alongside Apple TV+'s Widow's Bay. In commercials, Murai has directed campaigns for Nike (featuring Chance the Rapper), Beats by Dre (Powerbeats Pro), Apple (Slingshot), Corona, Lincoln, Microsoft, Google, Sonos, and Gillette. His music video portfolio spans Childish Gambino, FKA twigs, Flying Lotus, Earl Sweatshirt, Chet Faker, St. Vincent, Queens of the Stone Age, A Tribe Called Quest, and Massive Attack. In February 2025, Murai launched Chum Films production company with a first-look deal at FX Productions.
