Bio & background

James Haworth is a comedy-led commercial director long associated with Circle Productions in Toronto and Vancouver, and more recently signed to Tinygiant (March 2024) and Packer Productions (November 2025). His 1998 debut for The Vegetarian Society landed in the D&AD Annual; trade announcements also credit Arrows, Lions and a Pencil among a broader awards cabinet. Brand work spans the UK, US, Canada and Asia. Recent standouts include Specsavers Canada’s “Your Eyes Go Through a Lot” (2025), a dry, character-driven national campaign starring astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield in flight suit amid everyday Canadian vignettes, and ATCO’s “Scary Furnace,” which deploys haunted-house tropes—Dutch angles, basement darkness, 1970s horror grammar—for playful product comedy. Longer-running partnerships include Walmart (among them a Pattie LaBelle pie execution), McDonald’s, Pizza Hut and Churchill Insurance. His McDonald’s “Friends Wanted” hiring films for Cossette were shot loosely handheld with a flat, low-contrast look. Haworth centres casting, comic timing and tone: he prefers comedians for ad-lib, often runs two cameras, shoots the approved script, then leaves room for unscripted beats that frequently make the edit. He has repeatedly directed children and animals and mixes trained comic performers with real people and non-actor talent.
