Jamie Lawrence is a New Zealand commercial director based in Aotearoa and working with Scoundrel across Australia, New Zealand and Asia since May 2023. After South Seas Film & TV School and set work on The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Avatar and The Hobbit—including driving for James Cameron—he moved into commercials at Eight when producer Katie Millington saw his short Darryn Exists. His most decorated spot is Lotto New Zealand’s “Imagine On Ice” (DDB Aotearoa/Eight, August 2021), an Antarctic Powerball cliff-hanger that took Spikes Asia Film Gold, SHOTS Awards Bronze for Direction, and multiple CAANZ Axis and Award Awards across direction, cinematography, editing and integrated craft. He also directed Air New Zealand’s “We Fly For You” (Shine/Eight, May 2021), a multi-narrative film with over 150 talent including roughly 100 Air New Zealanders and real people filmed in their homes. Other brand work spans Kiwibank, SBS, Bluebird, Meridian Energy, Smiths City, RainbowYOUTH, Griffin’s and DB Export. Trade and roster copy highlight impeccable comic timing, skilfully understated performances, and character-led films with scale and Kiwi charm. He continues festival short-form work and is developing NZFC-supported features SKIN and SOLO.
