Joachim Back is an Oscar-winning commercial and film director based between New York and Copenhagen. He won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for The New Tenants (2010), starring Vincent D’Onofrio, and has been cited on the Gunn Report among the top ten most awarded commercial directors. Honors include a Cannes Gold Lion for the Pfizer/Viagra “Beep”/“Bleep” campaign, a D&AD Pencil and CLIO Silver (Cinematography) for Chivas Regal “Here’s to Big Bear,” CLIOs, ANDYs, ADDYs, AICP Best Sound for Captain Morgan, and additional Cannes Lions. Breakout commercial work includes the multi-awarded mid-2000s Viagra idents and a seven-film Tetra Pak series. Automotive credits include Audi “The Swan” (monochrome, hand-cranked film), Honda Accord/Civic/CR-V spots, Range Rover “Days Like These,” and MINI “This Day Forward.” Other campaigns span Stella Artois “The Rivals,” Air Miles “It’s All Gravy” (purpose-built plane set timed for a one-take illusion), Carl’s Jr., Miller Lite, Steak ’n Shake, Captain Morgan, Miracle Whip, Yellowpages, Rec Room, and Heineken with Nico Rosberg. Coverage stresses absurdist comic timing, actor-driven performance, and controlled cinematic pacing. He directed the Jon Hamm feature Corner Office (2022; Tribeca and Raindance official selections).
