John Hillcoat is an Australian-born director whose work spans award-winning commercials, feature films, premium television, and music videos. Educated at Melbourne's Swinburne Film School, his debut feature *Ghosts… of the Civil Dead* won Best Film at San Sebastian, launching a narrative career that includes *The Proposition* (eight AFI nominations), *The Road* (Venice competition), *Lawless* (Cannes competition), and *Triple 9*. In television, he directed Netflix's "Crocodile" episode of *Black Mirror* (Seoul International Drama Awards) and Showtime's Emmy-nominated miniseries *George & Tammy*. His commercial work has earned Grand Prix at Cannes Lions, Grand Clio for Branded Content, and top honors from AICP, ANDY, ADC, and One Show. Signature campaigns include Coca-Cola's Super Bowl anthem "It's Beautiful" (Wieden+Kennedy, 111.5 million viewers), Kia's Super Bowl scholarship initiatives (David&Goliath), and the Tribeca-premiered *Corazón* short for Montefiore Health Systems, credited with saving over 35,000 lives by raising LVAD awareness. Recent work includes Ford's search-and-rescue tribute and Eli Lilly's Alzheimer's film "Good Days" (AICP 2026 honors). In July 2024, Hillcoat joined Skunk as partner and director, reuniting with founder Matt Factor. He is also working with Arts & Sciences London (UK) and Collider (Australia), and maintains decades-long collaborations with Nick Cave, Bob Dylan, Depeche Mode, and The Rolling Stones in music videos.
