LJ Johnson is a writer-director signed to Hungry Man worldwide, known for grounded, character-driven comedy that showcases quirky human behavior with cinematic polish. She directed a Super Bowl teaser for Instacart and campaigns for Lay's, Quicken (earning an AICP Best New Director shortlist), Fruit of the Loom (36 million views), Miller Lite, Totino's, SeatGeek, Noodles & Company, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Airheads, and Georgia Lottery. Her Bear Naked Trails work won a Silver Cannes Lion. Johnson's path to directing was unconventional: after working as an actor, writer, producer, casting director, and production designer in Los Angeles, she created the web series Life's Lemonade in 2015 as her directorial debut. Her first paid commercial work came in November 2020 with YouTheFan. By 2021, she was named a SHOOT Top 30 Director to Watch and selected by Issa Rae for HBO Max's Project Greenlight reboot. In 2022, she became one of five AICP Commercial Directors Diversity Program Fellows from over 700 applicants. Industry observers highlight her ability to elicit subtle, nuanced performances from both unknown actors and celebrities including Paris Hilton, Courteney Cox, Kaley Cuoco, and Johnny Galecki. She is developing her first feature film.
