Marcus Ibanez is a Swedish commercial director whose work pairs emotional intimacy with in-camera craft. He graduated from Berghs School of Communication in 2016 with a degree in graphic design and joined Stockholm-based production company new–land, where he began as a Director's Assistant and 2nd Unit Director before transitioning to directing. His international breakout came in 2022 with PENNY's Christmas campaign 'The Wish,' a three-minute film about a mother's pandemic-era wish for her teenage son, which won the Cannes Grand Prix for Film Direction, a D&AD Grand Prix, and swept global awards including two D&AD Golds and an ADCE Grand Prix. He has since directed premium campaigns for Volvo EX90 shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema ('Oppenheimer'), Volvo 'Little Things' shot by Oscar-winner Linus Sandgren ('La La Land'), and Coach's Spring 2026 global campaign featuring Elle Fanning, Storm Reid, and Paige Bueckers. Ibanez's background in stills photography and design informs his meticulous approach to composition and lighting; he consistently favors practical effects and on-set problem-solving over post-production fixes. His long-term collaboration with editor Nik Kohler at Cabin Edit, often from script and animatic stages, has been central to his storytelling process. His client roster spans Volvo Cars, Coach, Lufthansa, PENNY, Adidas, H&M, UNHCR, and Swedish public-sector campaigns. working with new–land across Stockholm, Copenhagen, London, and Amsterdam, and by Iconoclast in the US, France, and Germany, Ibanez is an early-career director with Grand Prix-level recognition and a growing presence in international markets.
