After the Film Director program at Buenos Aires’ Fundación Universidad del Cine, he entered advertising around 2004 as one half of Nico & Martín with Nico Pérez Veiga. The duo built a Latin American reel for Ford, Axe, Sony, MTV, T-Mobile, HSBC and Orange, co-founded Primo Content in 2008—fifth in the Cannes Palme d’Or ranking in 2011—and won an Outdoor Grand Prix at Cannes 2010 for Andes Beer’s “Teletransporter,” a Film Gold Lion in 2011 for Axe’s “Premature Perspiration,” and a Film Gold Lion in 2012 for BGH’s black-and-white comedy “Dads In Briefs.” They were named Best Iberoamerican Directors at El Ojo de Iberoamérica in 2009 and 2010. Kalina’s short “Los Pálidos” screened in Locarno’s Leopards of Tomorrow (2013); the short-documentary “Luca’s Thousand Miles,” a road-movie on disability inclusion for the Argentinian Advertising Council, took a Gold Film Lion at Cannes 2014. Solo and later roster work includes Renault (“Zoe,” “Stay As You Are”), Budweiser “Synchronized Watching,” PayPal (“Don’t Live In Fear,” “Uncle Awesome”), Visa’s pasta-led “All flavour, no fear,” Modelo USA “The Mark of a Fighter,” Walker’s Crisps “Dry January” (2025), IKEA, McDonald’s, NHL “Catfish,” Kraft Dinner, L’Oréal Groupe “A Little Gentleness,” Guinness “Woods,” and Media Markt.
