Mary Dauterman is a Brooklyn-based writer-director, commercially repped in the U.S. by Sanctuary since February 2024. She started as an agency art director at Wieden+Kennedy, Droga5, and Crispin Porter + Bogusky before shifting to directing. Documented brand work includes e.l.f. Cosmetics’ Dirty Pillows Lip Kit campaign with Jennifer Coolidge (fall 2023, directed while at Imposter)—glamorous, cinematic multi-spot comedy built around sitcom-style characters and performance—plus International Delight, Pinterest, Pirate’s Booty, José Cuervo, IHOP, Casper, Clearasil, Vimeo Create, and Zulily. Trade coverage frames her commercials as irreverent and narrative-first: unexpected comedic details in everyday scenarios, whimsical characters, and stories that tip into the surreal while staying graphically composed, with production design, color, wardrobe, and lighting treated as equal to the joke. Parallel practice includes the body-horror comedy feature Booger (Fantasia premiere July 2023; Sanctuary co-EP), festival and Adult Swim shorts, and the developing heist comedy Thirty Grand. Recognition includes ADC Young Gun, 2019 SHOOT New Directors Showcase, Brooklyn Horror Best Director, Film Independent fellowships, and Webby/One Show/D&AD/Cannes Lions citations spanning her agency and directing careers.
