Matt Atkinson is a Toronto-based writer and commercial director represented in Canada by Steam Films and in the US by Fancy Content. His commercial profile centers on comedy and performance-led work. In 2023 he directed Sports Interaction’s variable-outcome campaign for Juniper Park\TBWA—a halftime snack-run premise with interchangeable comic scenes—where the agency credited his comfort outside traditional constraints, social-filmmaking approach, and hands-on humour craft, including physical gags such as a grown man in a baby stroller and on-set evolution of interaction and VO. Evidenced credits also include lg2’s 2016 NABS piece “It Ran,” Cossette’s Google Pixel 9 work, Boston Pizza’s “Plan the parade,” Action Furnace, Visa TIFF Store, and campaigns for Samsung, Hyundai, Mazda, Bank of Montreal, and Honda. Co-founder of El Duo Motion Pictures, he directed the feature Dakota (Jury/Special Jury Prize, Winnipeg International Film Festival) and the 2017 comedy Room for Rent (Brett Gelman, Mark Little), which won Best Feature at the L.A. Comedy Film Festival, Chicago Comedy Film Festival, and Canadian Film Fest, plus Best Direction and Best Writing at the Canadian Comedy Awards, with Netflix and CBC distribution.
