Matt Wolf is a New York-based documentary filmmaker who joined Epoch Films for U.S. commercial representation in January 2023. Over a seventeen-year career, he has directed Emmy-winning, Peabody-winning, and Independent Spirit Award-winning documentaries exploring queer history, underground artists, and unconventional visionaries through archival storytelling and character-driven narrative. His two-part HBO documentary "Pee-wee as Himself" (2025) won three Primetime Emmys including Best Director and was named one of the year's best programs by The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and The New Yorker. He produced the Emmy-nominated "The Stroll" (2023) for HBO and directed feature documentaries including "Spaceship Earth" (released by Neon), "Recorder" (named a top film by The New Yorker), and the cult music documentary "Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell." A Guggenheim Fellow and Academy member, Wolf has directed films and original content for Google, Facebook, YouTube, amfAR, Apple, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. He is currently writing "Trust Me," a book about documentary filmmaking relationships, for Bloomsbury and has curated programs including the 2019 Whitney Biennial.
