Melvin J. Montalban is a Sydney-based commercials director and visual artist working with Photoplay (Australia/NZ), with US sales contacts listed on the roster. An AFTRS graduate, he is positioned as a technical director who deploys visual effects, complicated rigs, camera moves, choreography, and art direction as tools for emotionally driven storytelling. Commercial credits include ASICS “Want It More” (2016) with Australian cricket athletes David Warner, Holly Ferling, and Mitchell Starc plus Wallabies platforms; Qantas “The Passport Take-Off” (2017); Peugeot “We Know Who We Are”; Samsung “Get Back In The Game”; Bundaberg Rum “Unmistakably Ours”; and roster work for Rexona, Kleenex, Coles, Gatorade, Lexus Encore, Macquarie University, Skip, Wonder, and BBL. His bushfire-survival short Letters, made in support of climate legislation, won Gold for Best Charity Film at the Shots Awards. He directed on the AACTA-nominated SBS mini-series The Unusual Suspects (2021), created Triple Oh! (2024), and with Leila Jeffreys produced VIVID multi-channel installations Temple (2022) and Nest (2024), the latter Phantom-shot in slow motion. He favors character-driven scripts expressed through bold visual style and in-camera ingenuity.
