Bio & background

Mindbomb Films is a Los Angeles boutique digital studio led by directors Chris Kirk and Syd Garon, represented in the U.S. by Bob Industries under Special Projects. Founded in the mid-1990s out of San Francisco's cyberpunk new-media scene, the company builds animation, title design, motion graphics, and hybrid live-action-to-full-CG content. Kirk (Film Theory, UC Berkeley) began in Oaktown-era music video and early agency roles on Levi's at FCB and Chiat/Day SF. Garon (University of Miami) directed animated cult feature Wave Twisters (Sundance 2001; SXSW Best Midnight Movie; SFMOMA's first digital acquisition) and co-directed N.A.S.A. The Spirit of Apollo (2011). The pair work jointly on every project as artists, creative directors, and directors. Recognition includes a 2015 Golden Eye for outstanding graphics on Jodorowsky's Dune; a 2012 Emmy nomination for animation and title design on HBO's Superheroes; and packages for American Revolutionary (with Shepard Fairey's Studio Number One), Blackfish, MLK/FBI, Body Parts, and Command and Control. Brand credits include multiple NASA packages, WWF Vote Earth, WIRED Design Awards, UTS, Southern Cross, and asserted clients Sony, Pepsi, Apple, Google, Starbucks, and PBS. Adweek credits Mindbomb for titles on DOJO's Sound United campaign for Definitive Technology and Polk Audio.
