Bio & background

Mohammad Gorjestani is an Iranian-American director based in San Francisco and director-founder of creative studio Even/Odd (co-founded with Malcolm Pullinger). Named one of Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Film for the ITVS-commissioned short Refuge (Tribeca 2013; SXSW 2014), he directs brand films that center real communities, class, and cultural perspective. His most awarded commercial work is Square’s For Every Kind of Dream cycle—Exit 12, Sister Hearts, and Yassin Falafel—earning Clios for Directing, D&AD, Tribeca X, and Webbys, with Exit 12 acquired by Fox Searchlight. Parallel credits include Airbnb’s Love Is Welcome Here / Let’s All Host with Pride, Lyft’s America Is An Idea, Beats by Dre’s It’s The Music with Serena Williams, Cash App’s Communities (shot on Super 16mm in color and black-and-white), and NFL films including The NFL Character Education (2024). Coverage in Shots, Ad Age, Musicbed, The Drum, and Adweek frames his practice around documentary brand storytelling and socio-political narratives drawn from a Section 8, first-generation upbringing after leaving Tehran as a child. He remains rostered through Even/Odd (SF/LA; U.S. sales via Talk Shop and Uncle Lefty).
