Osborne Macharia is a self-taught commercial photographer, digital artist, and director born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, and based in Vancouver, Canada. working with Kiddo Films across Vancouver and Toronto, he is known for narrative-driven Afrofuturist work integrating historical elements, present culture, and speculative fiction. After architecture studies, he taught himself photography, building a story-first process of casting, costume, and controlled lighting on medium-format Hasselblad systems with Profoto, finished in Photoshop and Lightroom. His photography credits include Marvel’s 2018 Black Panther “Ilgelunot” commission (shown in Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes), key art for OWN’s Queen Sugar, and brand work for Coca-Cola, Absolut, Campari, Guinness, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Samsung, Danone, Nestlé, Cadbury’s, Pepsi, Forbes, MTV, Disney, Vogue, Marie Claire, Safaricom, and Bose. Motion credits include HearCanada’s “Turn Up Life,” directorial debut music video ATIE (Blinky Bill x Mitya), and co-directing NO TOUCH AM with Andrew Mageto. He contributed to Kenya’s first Cannes Lion (2015), was a One Show finalist (2016) and Hasselblad Masters finalist (2016), earned two Lürzer’s Archive 200 Best Digital Artists listings, and in 2018 became the first Kenyan juror for Cannes Lions and the One Club/ADC Awards.
