Paul Santana is a Los Angeles-based commercial director, cinematographer, visual-effects artist and editor trained at the American Film Institute and Brooks Institute of Photography. After years as a cameraman he made his directorial debut with the American Cancer Society spot “Odds,” which entered SHOOT Magazine’s 2005 New Directors Showcase and the AICP Show, drew NPR praise as one of the most effective smoking-deterrent ads ever made, and resides in the Museum of Modern Art. A six- or seven-time AICP honoree, he has directed for Nike, Coors and Coors Light, Budweiser, Guinness, Jim Beam, Samsung, Coca-Cola, Bose, Microsoft, Toyota, Chevrolet, Jeep, Ford, Home Depot, fairlife, NYC DOT, LG&E, Dr Teals, Hydrogen Council and Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism. Signature work includes the climate PSA “Climate of Change,” the Telly Gold-winning NYC DOT Vision Zero “Rewind,” Toyota’s “Born for This,” annual Newfoundland Tourism wilderness and fishing-boat films, and Jim Beam tabletop noted for meticulous lighting and precise camera angles. His 2013 Durex spec “Protect Yourself” earned Young Turks praise. He frequently handles his own VFX, color and edit and is rostered at Sparks Productions, Durable Goods and Feels Like Home.
