Rafaela Carvalho is a Brazilian commercial director whose path runs from on-camera work and cinematography into directing. Born in São Paulo and street-scouted as an actress for a McDonald’s spot, she began as a cinematographer before moving into the director’s chair, carrying a photographer’s command of light and composition into advertising. Over roughly fifteen years she has directed brand work for WhatsApp, Lexus, Samsung, Petrobras, Mitsubishi, Tam, Sesc, and PBS Kids. Her WhatsApp campaign was shortlisted at Cannes Lions and The One Show, with trade press noting it set aside overt product push for nuanced storytelling and subtle character interaction. Titled pieces include Tam’s “Dream in the Sky,” Sesc “Dance,” Samsung “Medina,” Petrobras “Destiny” (2018), Lexus “Unveiling,” and the 2021 PBS Kids film “You Taught Me.” Profiles stress a human-centric, performance-sensitive approach—crafting stories from subjects’ viewpoints, seeking authentic characters, and balancing strong visuals with emotional depth. She joined Interrogate for U.S. commercials and branded content in November 2023, Freshman Canada in May 2025, and is associated with Primo (LATAM/EU) and Moonwalk Films.
