Bio & background

Ric Cantor is a comedy director and writer based between Los Angeles and London, originally from Manchester, UK. He directed both seasons of the BBC Three sketch series Man Stroke Woman (starring Nick Frost), wrote additional material on Sacha Baron Cohen’s Da Ali G Show, and wrote and directed the feature Suzie Gold. He began with BBC on-air promos, collecting fourteen Promax Awards before building a global commercial practice. Advertising clients include McDonald’s (“Baby Drive Thru,” “Drivers Win”), Specsavers, Mars, Mastercard, IKEA, Pepsi, Virgin, Domino’s, Dos Equis, BMW Certified (“Ultimate Match”), Dodge Ram, Navy Federal Credit Union vignettes, AARP (“Fraudster”), Boots, ASDA, Debenhams Christmas 2018 (Mother), Rangemaster (“New Family Member”), Sky Sports (“Sin Bin”), and NZTA (“Hello”). He won a Cannes Lions Gold Lion for NZTA and D&AD Pencils for Boots (Best Retail Spot and Best Campaign), plus British Arrows and Axis honours. Coverage cites character-driven, performance-led humour, sharp dialogue, and comedy drawn from everyday awkwardness without overplaying the joke. As of 2024 he is signed to Golden LA (US) and Epoch Films (UK, Amsterdam, Ireland, Asia), and remains on Scoundrel’s AU/NZ roster. He serves on the board of ManifestWorks.
