Bio & background

Ricki & Annie (Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg) are a directing duo on the Kaboom Productions roster in San Francisco. Their documentary features include Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work; Knuckleball!, which premiered at Tribeca in 2012 and follows pitchers Tim Wakefield and R.A. Dickey with Phantom high-speed photography of pitches thrown toward camera; and HBO’s Marathon: The Patriot’s Day Bombing, developed after 2014 conversations with HBO and centered on survivor resilience. Festival and platform credits include Tribeca, Sundance, Telluride, HBO, AMC, and Showtime. In advertising and branded content, they directed Brawny spots featuring Swin Cash and Maureen Stoecklein for the #StrengthHasNoGender campaign, covered by Fast Company, Adweek, and Bustle. Kaboom also credits branded content for Kenneth Cole, a Vogue/CFDA introduction on designer Ryan Roche, an Oscars “New Voices” piece, and the Epicuriosity shortform food-and-travel series, including a pie-making segment. Their commercial work emphasizes human-centered, documentary-inflected storytelling across cause-minded CPG, fashion and lifestyle, and food shortform.
