Rocky Morton co-founded MJZ (Morton Jankel Zander) in 1989, building it into a Cannes Lions Palme d'Or-winning production company (nine wins) named Ad Age's Production Company of the Year in 2005. He pioneered pseudo-CGI effects in the 1980s through analog techniques—rotoscoping, hand-drawn animation, bluescreen compositing, reflective tape under UV light—directing music videos for Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club, George Harrison, Miles Davis, Sex Pistols, and Queen. Morton co-created the cyberpunk icon Max Headroom (1985) for Channel 4, blending prosthetic makeup and video manipulation to satirize media saturation; the character became a cultural phenomenon featured in MoMA's 2017 "Thinking Machines" exhibition. His commercial work emphasizes character-driven satire and animation hybrids, earning three DGA nominations, a BAFTA, an Emmy, Gold/Silver Cannes Lions, Clios, and D&AD honors for campaigns including BellSouth Yellow Pages "Kung Fu Clowns" (2005 DGA nominee), Kellogg's Crunchy Nut "Dinosaur" (2012 Jurassic Park parody), and WWE 2K17 "Welcome to Suplex City" (2016). He directed the neo-noir feature D.O.A. (1988) and Super Mario Bros. (1993). Based in Venice, California, Morton balances selective commercial directing (recent Vodafone, WWF, Samsung spots via Heckler) with fine art exhibitions.
