Bio & background

Rodrigo Saavedra is a Rio de Janeiro-born director based between São Paulo and Lisbon, known for cinematic craft, stylized comedic storytelling, and emotionally resonant narratives rooted in human connection and cultural nuance. A Central Saint Martins graduate, he spent a decade as art director and copywriter at Mother London, WCRS, and Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam before transitioning to directing in 2013. His advertising creative background informs his meticulous approach to detail, visual composition, and narrative structure—he often draws his own storyboards and occasionally writes his own scripts. In 2022, Saavedra co-founded Immigrant, a production company with offices in Brazil, Denmark, and the Netherlands. In April 2024, he joined Pulse Films' US and UK commercial and music video roster. His work is characterized by elaborate production design, time-spanning narratives, and an ability to tap into Latin American magical realism while maintaining commercial appeal. Recent marquee projects include Toyota's Super Bowl LX 2026 spot "Superhero Belt" via Saatchi & Saatchi, Ford's "Learn" campaign for Wieden+Kennedy São Paulo exploring the connection between people and nature through magical realist storytelling, Renault's art-directed "The Store" tracking a business evolution across decades, and Heineken's time-travel "Cheers or No Cheers?" promoting Heineken 0.0. A 2018 Directors Guild of America member, Saavedra has directed campaigns for Toyota, Ford, Renault, Heineken, Corona, Samsung, Bose, O2, and numerous global brands.
