Sean Wang is a Taiwanese-American filmmaker and director from Fremont, California. A graduate of USC's School of Cinematic Arts (2016), Wang began his career as part of Google Creative Lab 5, directing campaigns that aired during the 2017 Emmy Awards and developing a cinematic language for storytelling through screens and interfaces. His documentary short Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó (2023) swept both Grand Jury and Audience Awards at SXSW, won the Grand Jury Prize at AFI Fest, and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Short Film. The film was acquired by Disney+ and Hulu. His feature directorial debut, Dìdi (弟弟), premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, winning the U.S. Dramatic Audience Award and Special Jury Prize for Best Ensemble Cast. Acquired by Focus Features for theatrical release, the semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story earned Independent Spirit Awards for Best First Feature and Best First Screenplay, a DGA nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a First-Time Feature Film, and recognition as one of the National Board of Review's Top Ten Independent Films of 2024. Named a 2024 BAFTA Breakthrough Artist and awarded the Sundance Vanguard Award for Fiction (2025), Wang joined Park Pictures for commercial representation in October 2024. His first major branded project, the Asian+American PSA for The Asian American Foundation (partnered with Wieden+Kennedy New York, narrated by Sandra Oh), was released in July 2025.
