Stephen Carroll is an Australian commercial director working with FINCH in Australia and New Zealand. A 2006 graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts, his short film 'Kin' competed at the Locarno International Film Festival. In 2011 he won the SHOTS Best New Director Award for Asia/Pacific and was selected for the Young Director's Showcase at Cannes. Carroll's work has earned two Yellow Pencils at D&AD for 'Radiant Returns' and recognition at the London International Awards, Spikes Asia, and Cannes. His directing spans highly stylized visual storytelling and performance-driven narratives, including the Cancer Council Victoria 'Hope Discovered Daily' campaign—a single continuous shot following a young cancer survivor. He has directed campaigns for AAMI, Toyota, McDonald's, Telstra, Samsung, Virgin, Westpac, AFL, and NAB, working with agencies including Publicis Groupe, Saatchi & Saatchi, DDB, and The Ministry of Lateral Thoughts. Before film, Carroll worked as a cabinet maker and gained experience as a director's assistant on features and commercials. His early music video work included the technically ambitious underwater-shot 'Always Coming Down' for Cordrazine, filmed in a dive pool at five meters depth.
