Varun Chopra is a filmmaker and commercial director based between Los Angeles, Vancouver, and London. A 2018 Sundance Institute Ignite Fellow, he won silver in the documentary category at the 2022 Cannes Lions Young Directors Award for Holy Cowboys, about a teenage boy and friends in small-town India where cows are sacred; the short played Nowness and Directors Library. He is working with The Corner Shop (US/UK). Recent credits include Mencap’s “Be The Yes” (Shots Commercials Best of August 2025; agency Don’t Panic; The Corner Shop), a true-story spot featuring Emily and the rejections she and her family faced because of her learning disability; a 2024 Google Gemini languages-and-translation piece for The Corner Shop; and the October 2025 co-directed campaign/documentary short “Daughter of the Lake” for Nyanam (with Matty Neikrug; The Color Four), set in rural Kenya around a circle of widows. His work meshes realism and performance across docu-style and cause-driven branded storytelling centered on real people. Coverage notes an on-the-go cinematographic approach using wide shots. Films and campaigns have been featured on PBS, Nowness, Aeon, Shots, LBB, and Directors Library; he is a 1.4 Awards nominee.
