Willem Gerritsen is a Dutch director and screenwriter whose work spans commercials, long-form television, and feature films. He studied Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam and entered the industry without formal film training, building his career through entrepreneurial drive by starting his own production company and directing commercials, corporate films, and music videos. Gerritsen won the Cannes Lions Young Director Award in 2008 and has earned two Bronze Cannes Lions for campaigns with TomTom and Hi-Tec, plus honors including ADC, D&AD, Epica, and Eurobest awards. In 2011 he was named an ADC Young Guns 9 Winner. His TomTom Star Wars-themed spots featuring Darth Vader and Yoda voices became viral phenomena with over 50 million YouTube views. His commercial reel includes LG, Mastercard, Amstel, Booking.com, Disney, Heineken, and Disneyland. He wrote and directed the feature film Renesse and helmed Dutch series including Penoza, Smeris, and Doodstil, demonstrating his ability to build narrative arcs and direct nuanced performances. working with CZAR across the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Germany, Papaya Films in the UK, GREATERGOOD in the U.S., Shining in Switzerland, GoEast in Ukraine, and UTA for film/television.
