Bio & background

Yemi Bamiro is a London-based documentary filmmaker and commercial director known for exploring grassroots communities, Black culture, music, and sports. He won the 2024 RTS Television Award for Best Arts Documentary for the BBC/PBS series Fight the Power: How Hip Hop Changed the World. His feature documentaries include One Man and His Shoes (SXSW 2020, London Film Festival 2020), examining America's toxic consumerism through Nike's Air Jordan sneakers and Michael Jordan; Super Eagles '96 (BFI London Film Festival 2022, DOCNYC 2022), chronicling Nigeria's 1996 Olympics gold medal football run; and Black Is Beautiful: The Kwame Brathwaite Story (BFI London Film Festival 2025, SFIFF 2026), exploring the photographer who popularized the phrase. Recent work includes directing Episode 3 of the Disney+/Hulu music docuseries Camden executive-produced by Dua Lipa with series director Asif Kapadia, and Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy for Netflix. His commercial portfolio includes branded documentaries for Adidas Football (The Fabric of Real Madrid), Levi's (Once Upon A Time In North London featuring Skepta), Red Bull (Assembly Required: Culture Clash), and multiple Axe/Lynx documentary films (Vogue Nights, Ladybeard, Skotoboinya). Beginning his career in journalism at MTV Camden, Bamiro brings archival storytelling expertise and a commitment to giving underrepresented voices agency.
